What is A Blade to Consider?

A BLADE TO CONSIDER - EDMONTON ROLLERBLADE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION became incorporated as a society on July 19, 2005. We are a non-for-profit society formed with a vision help troubled inner city youth and to support children's cancer research. Basically to save lives!

*For two years now, We have supported two worthy local youth charities: iHuman Youth Society and The Michael Cuccione Cancer Foundation.

In 2005, through pledge form donations, twenty-eight participants managed to raise $14,628 for youth! This year we are depending 50 participants to raise $50,000 by cycling or blading various routes (6K-40K) through Edmonton's River Valley on Saturday, July 15.

Genesis of the Project

The genesis of this project came from a young man named Christopher Ducharme who tragically lost his mother in 1996 when she was murdered by her boyfriend. Chris' loss has led him to the knowledge that life is precious and we must all do whatever we can to help improve the lives of others.

Roller-blading and poetry became forms of emotional release for him. Most significantly though, is his ability to forgive her killer and turn his loss into the impetus for helping others is inspiring. Michael Cuccione, who died in 2001 at the age of 16, was also inspiring. His motto has become Chris' motto: "One person can only do so much, but together we can make a difference!"
